Our History

Who is the North Port Area Women’s Club?

NPAWC consists of like-minded women who incorporated as a 501(c) (3)to award scholarships and support local community endeavors.

We evolved from a Nationally Chartered Organization whose goals no longer matched our own. In 2005, by  unanimous vote, NPAWC was born. By taking this step we were able to retain the principles upon which this group was initiated in 1982, while ensuring 100% of our efforts, our dues and the funds raised for scholarship would be utilized exclusively for North Port and our surrounding areas.

Our signature events, Goofy Golf, Ladies Themed Luncheon and Holiday Event have benefited local scholars by allowing us to provide $6,000.00 in 2009 towards their  continuing education. Their fields of endeavor vary ie. Nursing, Childcare, Special Education, Business  and Metaphysical degrees. Two of these recipients are working towards their Masters.

These scholarships are awarded annually in the Spring to individuals who wish to further their education, need training to return to the workforce, are changing careers or upgrading their skills. Applications are available in February at the North Port Library, local Colleges throughout Sarasota and Charlotte Counties as well as our Website.

Each Scholarship is awarded based on financial need, and a commitment to a course of study.

Additionally we provide separate funding for credential/licensing assistance.

COLLECT
(written by Mary Stewart 1904)

Keep us, oh God, from pettiness, let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with fault-finding and leave off self- seeking. May we put away all pretense and meet each other face to face—without self-pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous. Let us take time for all things; make us to grow calm, serene, gentle. Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straightforward and unafraid. Grant that we may realize it is the little things that create differences, that in the big things of life we are at one. And may we strive to touch and to know the great common human heart of us all, and oh, Lord God, let us forget not to be kind.

PLEDGE

As a rose grows and blooms
with the warmth of the sun,
so must I (we) continue to grow.

As a member of the North Port
Area Women’s Club, I will, with
all my heart, generosity, and
the warmth of my smile, help
others to grow and succeed, so
that they too will become a
beautiful rose in life’s garden!!
